This time it’s a 1940′s inspired tea – don’t worry it won’t be “mend and make do” and spam sandwiches!

There will be a live band with the fabulous singer Aisha Khan, playing classic 40s music for dancing. Thomas Keenes will DJ and play a short set of 1940′s tango. Girls you can indulge in your dressing up fantasies, come a little early to get your hair done in a retro style or (actually we probably we mean and) get your nails painted. Hair do’s will be £10. You’ll need to email or call 07739920077 to book an appointment as we expect to fill up quickly.

While you are doing that we will be assembling your fabulous tea which we have been busy researching and we have some very special cakes and savouries.

Girls get dressed up in trenchcoats, floral dresses (with shoulder pads!) and pencil skirts – remember seamed stockings, platforms and ankle straps – if you want some inspiration try this site: GlamourDaze.Gentlemen don’t be left out, remember this was the era of Humphrey Bogart, Glen Miller and Nat King Cole.A percentage of the profits from June’s tea party will go to the Open Arms Orphanage in Malawi, that cares for babies and children orphaned by AIDS.

January — late 50’s early 60’s

We started the New Year the way we meant to go on, by swimming in the Pioneer Centre swimming pool where the 1936 British Olympic team practised!! Guests brought their costumes or borrowed a vintage swimming costume.

The theme was late 50′s, early 60′s inspired tea, so we had all researched Mad Men, Ginsberg, beatniks, Sinatra, Chubby Checker and Peggy Lee so had dressed the part. We had a “wanna-be” Sinatra crooning to live piano.

Profits from January’s tea party went to the charity for Treloar College.

We were given a warm welcome by our beautiful hostess and brilliant waitresses in vintage clothes and welcomed into a charming scene. There was an array of mouth watering cakes and delicious tiny sandwiches which we ate off beautiful china. Meanwhile 30′s films played silently on a large screen while the hostess’s husband entertained us with Noel Coward songs on the piano. My only regret is that I was too stuffed to take advantage of a swim in the Pioneer Centre pool in a choice of stunning vintage swimming costumes…..but next time!

November — Vintage 1930s

Our November tea was held in an iconic 30′s listed building.

Our guests enjoyed live music, a delicious tea with a glass of bubbly, cucumber sandwiches, egg and cress sandwiches, cakes, biscuits, meringues, scones and home made jam, all served on vintage china.
They could also swim in the pool where the 1936 British Olympic team practised. We have a selection of vintage swimming costumes and vintage-style swimming hats to borrow, great fun was had by all!

Profits from November’s tea went to The Pioneer Centre Residents’ Association which contributes to the upkeep of this historic building.

Well what can we say except WOW! What a wonderful tea party. We had a great time. Everything was perfectly judged and deliciously tasty.
